As a smoothie shop in the Outer Banks, we often get asked simple questions in passing about smoothies. We are creating this article to share some of the knowledge we have gained in our decade in this business.
Although this snack/meal replacement gained a great deal of popularity in the 1960’s, the numbers still don’t compare to what is available today. There are over 5,000 smoothie shops in the United States alone. This is multitudes higher than the amount which existed in decades past.
Fresh fruits and vegetables taste so much better than frozen or puree in a bag. We pride ourselves on using fresh fruit for the best smoothie experience possible.
Although there are some smoothies out there that add a bunch of sugar and non-healthy ingredients, most smoothies are basically good for you. If your smoothie maker blends a handful of fruits and berries and they place it into a container for you, how could that possibly be bad?
Many people mistakenly believe that smoothies should only be consumed in the morning or afternoon. This is erroneous. If you are worried about any sugar rush late you shouldn’t be. If you have a smoothie with pro-biotics it can actually help you fall asleep. Bananas, oats, cherries and dairy are perfectly acceptable ingredients for a late night snack.
Your smoothie shop should be able to provide you with a calorie count for all of their popular smoothies. Some smoothies have less calories than others. A simple small banana based smoothie can be enjoyed and you take in only 300-400 calories.
